Becoming Men – Community Rites of Passage programs

Imagine a world with men taking up their roles and responsibilities in life, with a conscious awareness of their role in the community? Imagine men who are strong and confident, ready and willing to act with compassion and strength, and comfortable in their ability to nurture, and to grow with their family, friends and community around them.

Becoming Men is the focus of our Community Rites of Passage programs, where we work with families to support your boy(s) as they embark on their journey into manhood. We offer a tailored program to suit your community, with camps of 2 to 4 days duration. Our leaders work with mothers and fathers, or significant other care givers to develop a program that suits your needs and budget. Programs are camp based, and take boys through a program to raise their awareness of their coming roles as men, to assist them to understand who they are, challenge them to begin the journey into who they want to become, and to recognise their strengths and capacities.

As boys grow into young men, we want them to reach their potential with the support and encouragement of their parents, carers and community through recognising that with the freedoms and opportunities they seek, come responsibilities and roles. We want them to experience growing up as positive, happy and satisfying.

Our team is supportive of the provision of rites of passage programs for girls and is happy to work with passionate women to establish such programs in Tasmania.

Community Rites of Passage information nights

We are passionate about Rites of Passage, and about communities being supported to bring our boys more consciously into their adult masculinity. We are keen to come and share our experiences and passion for Rites of Passage with your group. We need a minimum of 10 people to come and give you a presentation on Rites of Passage.

Our talks include:

  1. Information on Rites of Passage in a contemporary western society for boys and girls,
  2. How we can strengthen the way we bring our children into early adulthood,
  3. Information and resources on Rites of Passage generally, and where to find out more,
  4. Information on how we can develop a program for boys to suit your group, or how you can join our next community based camp.

Our Leaders

Our leaders have been working with people from a variety of backgrounds and situations for many years. We have delivered boys rites of passage programs to the Tasmanian community since 1995. Many of our leaders are also involved with other forms of men's work including men's groups and the Tasmanian Men's Gathering. Our leaders will present the talks on Rites of Passage, so you will have a chance to meet them first hand at a talk.
